Research process

For this one project, I watched many short films in order to gain an understanding of how to properly pace a short film. A few films in particular had the greatest influence on my project.

The Back Hole- this film inspired an investigation of greed in my one film. The man’s desire and distrustful nature leads to his downfall.

Pub Love - I investigated this film once I had already begun to write my script. It follows a different story from mine but did have an influence when considering possible shots I could use in my short film.

A Night Walk - the beginning of this film inspired the close up shots of the legs in the affair scene of my own film.

Small Deaths by Lynne Ramsey - this film was an excellent demonstration of how filmmakers can present tension within a domestic setting. It also inspired me to write my film more from a female character's perspective.

I also used videos on YouTube to develop my technical filmmaking and writing skills. Whenever I have to learn something new or find myself at a roadblock YouTube is always a valuable resource.

Reflection - when conducting research for my project it was difficult to find films that truly inspired my own story. I have realised that this story could perhaps act as a prequel to the 'washed up marriage' film that I previously made during the diagnostic stage of the course.
